Pakistani cricket has had many ups and downs. We’ve been graced with players who have made us love the game. We’ve witnessed moments that have united us as a nation.
In the last few years, however, Pakistani cricket has unfortunately only seen downs. We’re a cricket loving nation that has been unable to see our national team play on its home turf. We’ve been torn apart by team politics.
But there has been one man who has led this team with quiet and fierce determination. Misbah stood by this team as it crumbled from within and reminded us why we loved this game.
The Measure of Misbah
As we said goodbye to our hero, it was only natural to look back at some of his defining moments as a Pakistani player and remind ourselves how much we’re going to miss our Captain.
From the records he set to the awards he won to the memorable tournaments he played in; we revisit them all.
Misbah was not loud or brash or flamboyant. His strength and leadership came from the patience he showed. His greatest asset was his quiet and fierce determination. What stood out about his was the calmness he showed in the face of adversity. When all his critics pointed fingers at him, he did not lash out.
Misbah has been the glue that has held the team together for a long team. He has stood by a team which has crumbled from within and let us with a fierce determination the way only he could have.
It is his leadership that has made him worthy of being mentioned in the same sentence as Imran Khan or Wasim Akram. Misbah was the hero we needed and for far too long most continued to criticize him. There will truly be no one like him. Fare thee well, Captain.
